How to Link to a Website (EASY Steps)

If you’ve noticed from the websites you’ve visited before, there are hyperlinks located in the body of the article. These can be internal or external links. In this article, we’ll discuss how to link to a website when you create content.

We know that links are crucial for a website’s health. The better the link profile you have, the better your health score will be. This is good for establishing authority in your niche.

The Power of Backlinks

When it comes to site authority and search engine rankings, backlinks are the cream of the crop. According to Mark Dingman of Millennium Agency, backlinks are used by search engines to determine the credibility and popularity of your site. These links from other websites generate leads, which you can turn to your audience.

There are many ways to link to a website. However, the organic way to earn backlinks is through adding value to the content. An example of such is anchor text linking.

If you have a link building agency, linking to link building keywords adds more value than linking to “click here” as an anchor text. This is how organic link building works. A backlink to your site should be relevant to the host’s content for it to be recognized by search engines.

Now, we’ll discuss the different steps to link to a website. Whether you’re internally linking to other pages on your site, or hosting backlinks for other sites, this guide will help you with your problems.

1. Create Content

If you’re building links for your client, it’s important to be flexible in creating content. Guest posting to different niche websites is hard, especially if you’re not particularly an expert in that niche. Good thing you can establish authority by creating high-quality content.

The first thing to do if you want to link to a website is to create content that’s relevant to your client’s website. Your content should be optimized for this purpose. Keywords, anchor texts, and other factors will be of importance as we go through this guide.

Some tools can help you create high-quality content. For this guide, I’ll be using the INK tool for reference. You can also do these steps on WordPress, Microsoft Word, and other content creation tools.

2. Highlight the Anchor Text

To find the perfect anchor text for the URL, you need to conduct thorough keyword research. This is to ensure that the URL you’re adding to your content can rank for that keyword (assuming that your content will rank on SERPs). Once you find the right keyword, you can add it as an anchor text to your content.

To add a backlink to that anchor text, highlight it and then proceed to the next step.

3. Press Ctrl+K or Click the Chain Icon

A toolbar will appear after pressing Ctrl+K.

You can add a link to your content using two ways. The first is by pressing Ctrl+K. This will open a textbox (as seen on the image above) where you can input the URL of the website you want to link to.

You can also click on the "chain" icon to add a URL to your content.

Another way is by pressing the small “chain” icon on the toolbar. This will open the same textbox as the one above. Once you’ve opened this textbox, you can proceed to the next step.

4. Copy the URL from the Website

Copy the URL from the website that is located on top of the page.

The URL is located on top of the webpage. You need to copy the URL, with or without the https:// tag. Content creation tools will automatically detect if you’re trying to add a valid URL.

Once you’ve copied the URL of the website you want to link to, go back to the content editor tool and proceed to step 5.

5. Paste It on the Textbox

Paste the URL on the textbox and hit enter.

Once you’ve copied the website URL, you can paste it on the textbox to add it to your content. The anchor text should have the hyperlink on it. It would look like this.

Now you have an anchor text with a link to a website. You can do these steps when you want to link to other websites. You just have to repeat steps 2-5 and link to a new website.

Remember to Link Organically

Organic linking is something you should practice every time you link to other websites. By following these steps, you can add an external or internal link to your content and add value to your piece.
